D-Tan

A D-tan treatment is a skincare procedure designed to remove sun-induced tan, reduce pigmentation, and brighten the skin. It is more intensive than a basic facial but generally more gentle than chemical bleaches. The treatment involves exfoliating the skin to remove the layer of skin with excess melanin, which is the pigment responsible for skin color and tanning.

The D-tan process

A professional D-tan treatment or a D-tan facial kit will typically follow these steps:

  • Cleansing: The face is first cleaned with a de-tan face wash to remove surface-level impurities.
  • Exfoliation: A de-tan scrub is used to gently exfoliate dead skin cells and help prepare the skin for the treatment.
  • Application of cream/pack: A specialized de-tan cream or face pack is applied to the face and neck. This contains the active ingredients that work to break down and remove the tan.
  • Massage and Rinse: The cream may be massaged gently into the skin before being rinsed off with lukewarm water.
  • Moisturizing and Aftercare: A moisturizer and serum are applied to soothe the skin and lock in the benefits of the treatment.

D-tan aftercare

Proper aftercare is essential to maintain the results of a D-tan treatment and prevent further skin damage.

  • Use Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF every day, even on cloudy days, to protect your newly brightened skin from UV rays.
  • Avoid Excessive Sun: Stay out of direct sunlight for a few days following your treatment to allow your skin to recover.
  • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water and use a gentle moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and supple.
  • Avoid Harsh Products: Refrain from using harsh exfoliants, retinol, or other strong active ingredients for a few days to avoid irritating your skin.
  • Repeat Regularly: For best results, repeat the D-tan treatment regularly, depending on your sun exposure and skin type.
