Bleach
Facial Bleach
Facial bleach products use chemicals, such as hydrogen peroxide, to temporarily lighten dark facial hair so it blends with your skin tone. Bleach can also help reduce the appearance of dark spots, blemishes, and tan lines for a more even complexion. It is a popular, budget-friendly option for achieving an instant glow.
Important safety considerations
While facial bleach is a common product, it is crucial to use it correctly and cautiously to avoid skin irritation or damage.
- Patch test: Always perform a patch test on a small, discreet area of your skin (such as behind your ear or on your forearm) 24 to 48 hours before applying bleach to your face.
- Avoid sensitive areas: Keep the product away from sensitive areas like your eyes, eyebrows, and nostrils.
- Monitor time: Do not leave the bleach on for longer than the recommended time on the product packaging, as this can cause a burning sensation.
- Frequency: To avoid damaging your skin barrier, do not bleach your face too often. The recommended frequency is typically once every 3 to 4 weeks.
- Post-bleach care: Apply a soothing moisturizer or aloe vera gel after bleaching to calm and hydrate the skin.
How to apply facial bleach
- Prep your skin. Wash your face with a mild cleanser and cold water to remove dirt and impurities. Gently pat your face dry.
- Mix the bleach. Follow the instructions on the package to combine the cream and activator powder in the correct ratio. Mix thoroughly until you have a smooth, consistent cream.
- Apply the cream. Using a spatula or your fingers, apply a generous layer of the mixture to your face, moving in the direction of hair growth. Apply a thicker layer on areas like the forehead and cheeks, and a very thin layer above the lips. Avoid the delicate skin around your eyes and nostrils.
- Wait for the recommended time. Leave the bleach on for the amount of time indicated on the packaging, typically 10 to 15 minutes. Do not exceed this time.
- Rinse thoroughly. Use a clean, cold-water-soaked cotton ball to wipe off the bleach. Rinse your face completely with cold water and pat dry.
- Soothe and moisturize. Apply a calming moisturizer or aloe vera gel to rehydrate and soothe your skin after treatment.
